Azriel, is the angel of death. It's a very big thing in the Islamic texts.

There is some debate between scholars on the spelling, as some spell it Azrael, but it pretty much sounds the same, and they seem to be interchangeable.

Other sources say that Azrael is the angel of death, but Azriel is the angle of destruction.

So, yeah. Probably not the best choice.

My bil is Azriel (Zrilu or Izzy) and he's a Paramedic by profession. LOL

My son's name is Azriel. I almost died having him and calling our son Azriel (Hashem is my help) seemed perfect. Also, I had a wacky dream that my deceased mother told me to name him Nechemiah so his name is Azriel Nechemiah. She told me he would be my greatest comfort. Guess what? Ten months after having him, I was diagnosed with advanced cancer. He has been a shining light in a very dark time of my life. He completed our family. Best. Name. Ever. For a nickname, we call him Ozzy.

I know an Ezra. Love the name, as with all names that talk about Hashem helping us.

Is Azriel and Ezriel both spelled עזריאל? Is the difference in just the nekudos?
I’m curious what’s the difference between the two names. Both sound beautiful but I prefer Azriel.
