I agree with you op. 50-60k is a very nice salary. If they're applying for the job then they want to do the work.

Aside from the legal issues, you might point out to your boss that older workers with responsibilities and experience are often more reliable than younger workers.

Of course, this is just as broad a stereotype as the idea that an older worker would find the job beneath him, but the point is that every employee has strengths and weaknesses. Focusing on age too much may blind your boss to other attributes, either positive or negative.

I work in HR and we are not allowed to ask age and previous salary , so how do you even know this information?
In any case it's illegal, hire the best person for the job.

To all the ppl that write that 50k is a nice salary.
It is on paper but if it's 50+h and you come home exhausted because it's very demanding, it's not amazing.

When you have no job, like me, and it's in the middle of a pandemic, I'd be thrilled for this salary.
