I was discussing upsherin with a friend and asked her if she made a honey cake.
She laughed and said that this is a minhag in my local circle and I shouldn’t think everyone had the same minhag.

So now I’m curious is it a minhag by you to have a honey cake by your sons upsherin?

Not our family's minhag but I liked the idea so I made it for a few of my kids upsherins.

I'd take a cake to Cheder anyway for lchaim etc.

Yes, we make a honey cake. We're chassidish.
I know non chassidish people that do this as well.

Upsherins are a chassidish minhag. Most non Chassidish people who make upsherins have chassidish background.

It’s probably because lots of people have “lekach and bronfin” to make a l’chaim. Many people think that lekach means honey cake specifically. But really it refers to any mezonos.
