It’s reality.... everything costs money.
Some will do with a little more and some with a little less, but bottom line it’s alot of money.

Some ppl could afford it so why not if they like it?
Unless you're asking about why ppl spend so much when they can't afford it?

I've heard that the weddings are not really cheaper now even with COVID.

Because the need to show off specially for insecure people, never goes away.

I believe that.
My son's friends who made Corona bar mitzvas spent more than non Corona.
Finding a location, renting tents, tables, chairs, individually wrapped.
The cheaper caterers have higher minimum amounts.

COVID Weddings are a fortune. Tent rentals are expensive, kitchen setup with warmers and no proper setup. Renting all furniture. Setup and cleanup. Moving props. You pay WAY more per person and overall.

If I could redo my wedding I would have made it in the backyard. Just immediate family. A meal inside. 10 yrs too late. Oh well

Would you do it in the backyard for your children? Be honest

I am also curious, what the benefit is to spend tens of thousands more, when you could have a beautiful wedding for less( besides guest bringing check books to the simcha). Is it to make the Kallah happy, or happier?. Is it because the parents want a nice wedding? Because people want to add expenses without doing a chesbone or cost benefit analysis. Because they have enough money for down payment and everything else they need and want so why not? Is it to deter divorce after spending so much money? Really just curious.

Take it from me, NOTHING IS CHEAPER. NOTHING.
That wedding for 100 is the same exact price as the Lakewood wedding for 450.
And everyone needs to make a parnassah these days, let's spread the wealth around! It's not like the money will be delivered to your doorstep instead.

We made a small outdoor corona bar mitzvah. It was just as expensive as the larger bar mitzvahs we made previously. The caterers charge for the job and not per person and you need to rent the tent and tables, chairs, etc.
outdoor weddings people had to rent fancy versions of port o potties. You can’t have guests with no where to use the facilities and you can’t exactly put down a gross port a potty with no sink.

I used to think like that too. Now that I see my friends business suffering. Caterers. Venues. Flowers. Etc. Dressmakers. DJs, Chazans photographers
So many people with no or significantly diminishing livelihood.
I don't even care anymore. If you have the money to spend. Can help a small business. Can do it b'shalom in your home. Do it. Enjoy.
As long as the simcha is a true source of simcha and dveikut to H. You can have 30,000 different varieties of miniatures and a smoked meat bar that looks its from the flintstones. Spread the dough! Spread the joy.
I'll continue to have my small sweet holy smachot that are within my means and feel just as rich as the machers ;-)

We looked into making a backyard wedding, and surprised that it isn't much cheaper than at a hall. We have to rent a tent, table, chairs, linens, dance floor, and food and staff to serve. Your house becomes a wreck, as well as your grass. Is it worth it?
