Thanks for all off the suggestions!
Any good biography recommendations? |
I enjoyed Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow.
I recommend reading autobiographies, too. There is something fascinating about getting to read the firsthand thoughts of people like Nikola Tesla, Helen Keller, and Benjamin Franklin.

I think the op is looking for lighter subject material.
But if you're up for something more heavy, I recommend 'the last lion', a fascinating bio about Winston churchill.

A long, but easy and fascinating autobiographical read is, The Autobiography Of Agatha Christie. I've read it at least 3x. Easily one of my favorite non-fiction books.

If OP wants to get books through the library and not have to spend money, some of the suggestions on this thread probably won't work. |
I'm definitely planning to go cheap at the library

Anyone read Turbulent Souls by Stephen Dubner? Does it fit my appropriateness criteria?

Yes, just be aware it discusses a lot of x-tianity practices and beliefs. If you are uncomfortable with that, then you may want to skip it. But fascinating read. And no s*x.

If you like fantasy-
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman
The adults-only fantasy tends to be either very dark or not very clean. So I stick to YA fantasy and I enjoy it.

I will just add a disclaimer that I didn't like Pullman's dark materials series, or this new sequel series. Yes they might be clean but it deals with some very questionable haskafas involving demons, angels, overthrowing G-d etc, which as a frum person I was not comfortable reading.
There's some really good YA fantasy out there. I personally like the fairy-tale retellings- K.M. Shea is particularly good, also Melanie Cellier.
Also like Melissa McShane, Melissa Caruso, and so many more that I can't think of right now.
