They sell in the American areas because it’s an American product.

They sell it imported. They sell most sauces imported. They are just so expensive.

In Beit Shemesh you can get 5 different brands of duck sauce. I've even seen it in one gallon bottles! It must be a Jewish thing, because I never even heard of it until I became frum.

In Jerusalem there is an Asian grocery store called "Balagan", across the street from the shuk. It has everything you can imagine. About 1/3 of the products there have a heksher, so be sure you read the labels carefully. The guy at the counter speaks English, and he can help you find what you need.

Because of all the Asian workers who come here, the store is usually pretty crowded.

Rotev chili matok (osem brand- because theirs isn't spicy) would be most similar but its not the same.
Osher Ad and Bar Kol are two chain stores in the Anglo areas that carry it though I'm not sure all branches stock it.

Sweet chili sauce is similar. Or you can make your own with apricot jam, sugar, vinegar

You can blend together about 1 1/4 cups apricot jam, 1/4 cup water/vinegar, 2 tsp soy sauce, 1 garlic clove.

Try Sarona Market in Tel Aviv (not sure if it's open now during lockdown).
They have stores that specialize in imported spices and bottled sauces and the like.
In the Jerusalem area Superdeal carries it.

A bunch of stores in Jerusalem sell it, any minimarket along Emek Refaim for example. I'm sure there must be something comparable in Tel Aviv.

That said, I never buy it. Instead I get jars of cheap apricot jam from any supermarket and season it with other flavors.

It's very expensive so I buy it only as a special convenience for Pesach which is when they also import the fresh batches.
Otherwise I use Chili Matok in combination with other ingredients when I want sweet chicken.
