Standard IME is separate dish towels, smaller milchig fridge (young couplesdon't have this so would use different shelves in the fridge), one garbage can.

I vaguely remember once hearing that if a person eats a McDonald's cheeseburger they are oiver eating non-kosher. But not oiver basar v'chalav for that reason.

I'm pretty sure if the meat and milk are from a kosher species it still applies, even if there was no shechita and there are other additives. So bacon and cheese would not be basar bchalav, but a beef patty and cheese would be.
