What I mean is this unpainted part of the house. We leave it uncovered. My husband takes off the paint and makes sure it’s the right dimensions (idk about that)

Anybody else do this? Or do you cover it with something?

And no idk what people do when they move out.

I don’t notice it in other chasidish homes, however.

No I don’t have one. I’m not sure but I don’t think you need one if you don’t own your home.

Yes we have one. We left a part unpainted in our front foyer.

I'm pretty sure a poll must have the chasidish/not chasidish option for whatever you're polling about. Wink Very Happy

When we rented, no. We asked our rav who said it’s a nice thing to do but not halacha and not to mess with rentals. We have an unpainted area in the home we own. Also, the idea is not to remove paint. IF you are painting, the idea is to intentionally leave a space unpainted.

There's enough 'zecher l'churban' without me intentionally chipping paint, so no.

I voted yes but really it's other. We don't have the unpainted bit, we have a nice 'im eshcochech' in the hallway. Opposite the door, the cut out one in big silver lettering.

Yes, when we painted our front entrance we left out a large square of a specific dimension.

I've seen people put a I'm eshkacheich sign on the area that is left unpainted. It doesn't cover the whole thing (that would be missing the point:) but it does make it look nicer and perhaps more "intentional" if you get me.

I think zecher l'chorben only applies when you own your home.

Our walls are white plaster so leaving a square unpainted wouldn’t make a difference, we have a large אם אשכחך

That’s what my mother used to say about it our house growing up. Fast forward a couple of decades and my parents house is so immaculate and put together.

I'm Chabad and this was never done. Nobody I know does it either. We should be focusing on building the new beis hamikdash instead of finding more ways (than there already are) to mourn the old one.

My house is neat and put together....it’s just the walls have writing in them, paint is chipping, carpet needs to be replaced....
