Hi! My child starting stuttering as a teen a couple years ago and I just became aware there is a possibility it could be pandas. I don't think my pediatrician believes in this. I'm in the Nj/ tristate area. I know it might not be this, but it sounds possible to me. I have no recollection of weather it coincided with strep but we all occasionally get it and it seems odd to start stuttering as a teen. Anyone know how I would check titters? What doctor in tristate area I can go to?

there are blood tests you can take to see if there are the markers of pandas

I was referred to Dr Shahkoohi at ODA health center in Williamsburg for my son being diagnosed with Lyme. Seems like he’s familiar with with brain inflammation. He can then refer you to who can best treat it if it comes out positive.

Just ask your pedi to run ASO and antidnaseb. Keep in mind that pandas is a clinical diagnosis, bloodwork can give you clues but won’t rule anything in or out.

There are other potential causes, such as trauma.

Yes, but always good to first rule out any medical causes.
Op, be advised that strep is not the only infection that causes symptoms of brain inflammation like stuttering. Lyme and coinfections, ebv, cmv, Mycoplasma, coxsackie, hhv6 are some others.
