(Leichter) did your great grandparents, or grandparents, light in the early 20th century.

Out of curiosity.

I'll start. I have a hodgepodge from both sets of grandparents, all brass. On my maternal side, they're tall, and very heavy. On paternal side, very short.

We recently found what we think were DH's grandparents, also brass, very slender, only a few inches tall.

My grandparents came to the US with nothing but the clothes on their backs. We wish we would have pictures of our ancestors and some of their heirlooms. Sad
We collect stories and memories.

But surely they used something after they arrived.

They used a silver candelabra as far back as I knew them.

Heavy, indestructible solid brass that can do double duty as a bludgeon in case of a home invasion. My sister still uses them and will probably pass them along to one of her granddaughters.

I know one of my grandmother's inherited her mother's and her aunt's silver candlesticks. For context, my grandmother was born in the US in the early 1930's.

I'm not sure about my other grandmother. I will try to remember to ask.

My grandparents were married before WWII. Her parents hid silver candlesticks and other silver stuff in the yard before deportation. My grandmother retrieved the candlesticks and brought them over to the US. She added additional small silver candelabras and sticks as her family grew.

My grandparents also came with nothing, after the war. So it's mid 1900's. I know my grandmother ended up with small silver candlesticks, but I don't know that she started with them. She lit two, regardless of number of children.
