DS, just bar mitzvah, is not the sleepaway camp type of kid. He went to Blev Echad the last two years (since we moved here) but is not comfortable going at his age. Is there a teen camp for boys? What is recommended for the summer for boys this age for those not ready to go to sleepaway? Tia!

Would he want to be an assistant counselor for a younger age bunk? Do the day camps in your area need that?

Camp Chabura has a 7th and 8th (coming out of) division that I hear boys are very happy and kept busy.
A friend told me they learn hard, play hard, trip hard.

There is a camping camp if your son is into that. They learn camping and outdoor skills. Lots of biking. The head counselor is fantastic. It is very expensive tho. And a small group. I’m drawing a blank on all names
Also sometimes you can find rebbeim that put together groups. My son had last year a rebbe put together an adventure camp. They did lots of biking and hiking. My son said the boys loved it. But many are put together last minute.

Thank you for all these posts. I am in the exact same situation. My kids were in blev echad- now they can only be counselors. We can't afford sleepaway.

My son was very happy in Kevutza last summer, run by Rabbi Newirth. They have a special program for the oldest bunk and have a weekend shabbaton for them one, on of the shabbosim of camp. The camp is only for grades 5th and up.
