My father who is in his 80s in relatively good health and in the hospital for a UTI got Covid.
He has no symptoms and feels fine. He was diagnosed with it a week ago.
They said they found an infection in his blood related to the Covid but they said that they dont want to treat it because he has no other symptoms.
Does that make sense that there is nothing to do?

Is there anyone I could call to run it by?
I am in New York.

Can you ask them for a second opinion from the staff doctors for the blood infection? Can you find another specialist to give a second opinion? I'm not in your location nor a doctor, so I don't have recommendations. Can you ask them to explain what the treatment for the blood infection is, if any, and what the concern is in treating it? (to understand the risk/benefit conclusion they are coming to)

Definitely speak to his GP, but there isn't really much that can or should be done for asymptomatic covid. I don't think that Remdesivir or ivermectin are indicated (or necessary) for asymptomatic cases. Certainly not monoclonal antibodies.

ETA, at his age, if he's asymptomatic after a week, there's every reason to believe he will make a complete recovery.

Wishing him a complete refuah shleima.

I would definitely take vitamins (c, d, zinc, quercetin) cant hurt and he may still come down with symptoms after already being positive

If by "blood infection" one means via a blood test they see he has covid, but there are no other symptoms, it's viral. If there's some other blood infection going on, that's what I was referring to above to get clarification on treatment, risks (of both treating or not treating), etc. and potentially a second opinion.

Most people with COVID treat symptoms, use supportive care (fluids, rest, vitamins, etc.) to successfully get through it at home. I also know some elderly who had completely asymptomatic cases discovered in the course of some other issue, and COVID just thankfully wasn't a big deal for them. (And I do think COVID is a big deal and something to prevent, especially for those who are at more risk. I think the risks are real.) BH your relative thankfully seems to be the exception to the rule. Chasdei Hashem and refuah sheleimah!

Thank you for your input, you made me feel better. I just didnt want to do nothing if there was something to be done.
He has until Monday to be clear of not being in quarantine so hopefully he will stay asymptomatic.
He has a UTI and another infection which he got in the hospital which they are treating with IV antibiotics.

My grandmother recently had the monoclonal antibodies treatment as soon as she tested positive before symptoms. However, she isn't located in New York so the regulations may be different.

That’s what I want for my father but two doctors said it was not necessary.
That’s why I would like to speak to someone who is up on this.
