I needs suggestions of a prize for a first grade boy. Something which would really excite them and have them willing to work on earning for a few weeks... not too expensive though.

Ask him!

Here are some other suggestions besides an outing, which is always a win:

- extra time before bed
- DS picks Shabbos dessert
- Stickers or a small toy he wants (look through a catalogue together)
- special snack

In first grade my DS worked really hard on a handwriting project for school to earn a silver plated becher (I think the rebbi said it cost about $7). He was so proud to get that becher and uses it every week (even though he has a much nicer silver becher!)

My first grade DD loves LEGO sets and saves her tokens for weeks to earn them. They can be pricy, but there are some LEGO vehicles under $15.

Lego

Charts/tickets/points/competitions are super motivating for him. Regardless of prize. He's super competative.

Nothing
If he wants to do something he’ll do it. No bribe in the world gets him to do something he’s not motivated to do. I don’t even try bribery anymore. I rather spend effort trying to find ways to make him want to do the task.

My kid makes her own charts and that’s what motivates her. She creates the prizes and prize schedule and what constitutes completing the task... she got herself to stop sucking her thumb that way and is making one now for something else and I am davening that it works...

Gretchen Rubin talks about a framework of four personalities when it comes to getting ourselves to do something. I wonder which one your son belongs to.
