We wash bottles right away and they still smell like formula. Suggestions?

Let the bottle fill and overflow with very cold water.

Helps with all plastic containers.

Edit: after they have been cleaned well.

I put a drop of dish soap with boiling water into the bottle and shake them very well. The bottles don't smell.

Soak with vinegar OR baking soda and water, not both at the same time. When you mix them, the chemical reaction causes fizzing, which makes it seem as if a lot of cleaning is going on, but what's happening is that the acid and the base, each of which has cleaning properties, are neutralizing each other and you're left with plain old water and sodium acetate, which neither cleans nor disinfects.

Where the fizzing reaction sometimes helps--a little-- is when your drain is slow. Pouring baking soda down the drain and following it with hot vinegar will cause a spectacular fizzing reaction. The hot vinegar helps melt grease, and the violent fizzing helps mechanically dislodge the crud. This works only if the clog is not severe and is not made of insoluble material like hair and lint. Using a snake or plunger works way better, but this method is fun to try once or if you don't have a snake or plunger.

If you don't have a plunger, GET ONE. They're not that expensive and they can save you the trouble of calling a plumber or your super. If possible, get the kind that has a sort of turtleneck collar folded inside the main bulb. When you pull out the collar, it forms a narrow tube that you put in the throat of the toilet and makes the plunger much more effective than the wide bulb alone. But if you can't find that kind, a plain ordinary plunger will also work.

The rumor that I give people plungers as housewarming gifts is absolutely untrue. Though it's not a bad idea. Elegant lace-trimmed fingertip towels may never be used. A plunger will be.

Kosher salt
Pour some in the bottle, say 2 TBS and a drop of water to make it wet but not diluted. Cover and shake well and then wash well with regular dish soap. Takes away the smell and doesn't leave an after taste.

Eta: the salt needs to be big crystals, regular table salt won't work so any salt other than table salt will do the trick
