add cardigans if cold do not put a shirt under (under the cardigan its fine)

Maybe this is why I have a hard time? I would think of these as weekday dresses!

look those two could go both ways - if they are dressed up with a fancy bow headband, a cardigan pretty sock, pretty shoes or down with sneakers and a t- shirt underneath
And I actually think that at this age it really doesn't matter - as long as dd looks and feels pretty
When she starts caring I would invest more

I just really believe that it is better to spend money then getting the whole "look" right with the 10$ h a m dress with the right socks, hair accesories, shoes then to spend 40$ (or 80$) on a "fancier" dress

my DD also wont keep headband on. try aligator clip with bow. very pretty and put together that at least will stay in a little longer and wont break. I got a pack like this to have for a bunch of outfits. tons of options on amazon/ebay/alli- put in 4 inch bow 6 inch bow etc
