I got a vacuum packed mini pastrami chunk in a box. It says to keep refrigerated or frozen.
How do I know if this is raw or cooked??

Post a picture. I’ve bought both. I’ve never gotten raw meat in the box so my guess would be cooked but let’s see.

If it's pastrami, it's probably not raw.

My DH said it’s cooked and to serve cubed.
I often buy raw vacuum packed pastrami to put in cholent so I thought it was that.

The vacuum packed pastrami for chalont is cooked. Pastrami isn't sold raw.

Planning on doing Charcuterie board for Purim for family. So far cooked hasselback kilbasa made pastrami jerky from a pkg got in old box. Will slice up pastrami and cube a chicken pastrami I have and some sliced turkey breast. Add some pickles.
All from boxes

I just put it in my chulent pot, in the plastic, right on top. Shabbos morning we take it out and cut it open, and it's hot and delicious. We serve it alongside the chulent.

Pastrami (Romanian: pastramă) is a Romanian variant of the Turkish pastırma usually made from beef brisket, and sometimes from lamb, or turkey. The raw meat is brined, partially dried, seasoned with herbs and spices, then smoked and steamed. (From Wikipedia)
IOW, it's already cooked.
But it's tastier when it's heated.

It can definitely be raw, my butcher sells raw and/or cooked vacuum packed pastrami. The raw ones are so much better in chulent, they’re less overcooked.
I guess technically it might not be pastrami if it’s raw, but so much of the meat in kosher butcher stores are not actually what we call it.
