Appx $150 for all mm together. Includes 12 of my own, 8 mm for teachers/assistants/tutors, 12 mm for my kids.

$255 tips.

No new costumes this year.

No meals home. I was in charge of the drinks, ordered few cases via email and delivered, so not sure Total.

Matanis l'evyonim is husbands department.

ETA-I never really make a total of my expenses, I buy whatever needed. Hotzuas yom tov.

$671 in the grocery for seudah and Shabbos guests
$350 on shalach manos
$500 in liquor store
$100 costumes
$150 for candy table
$500 on teacher/rebbe tips
$100 takeout for seuda
$150 driver

So basically a lot. But I am willing to pay a lot for convenience. And I made up my mind I will not cry this Purim.

You’re so blessed

I made up my mind I won’t cry this Purim but I don’t have this kind of money. So it’s not even Purim yet and I’ve already cried three times.

How much money hmm let’s see

$100 tips
About $100 for mm, 15 pieces
another $70 for my husbands boss mm
Wine for mm my husband found in his office
$0 for costumes, we had from last year thank goodness my kids are little and they don’t care
Regular weekly grocery order , maybe a bit more so I’m not counting that

Is there a "going rate" for teacher gifts in preschool (Crown Heights)? I did not give those yet but I don't think it will be too bad if I give them late. A gift for the teacher is a nice, even expected thing to do but I don't think it needs to be part of the "mitzvah" of Purim.

Most people just give a mishloach Manos.

$180 Matanos l'evyonim
$15 MM
$20 seudah food, but probably what I'll eat of it is $5 and the rest will be leftover for Shabbos or whenever.

Just made a rough estimate, and I'm staggered.

Tips (8 kids in school/ yeshiva) $960
Costumes - we reused last years mostly, but updated for size, missing pieces, etc- $100
Shalach manos, each kid gave about 10 pcs, for about 3' dollars dollars each- $300
Adult Shalach manos, we bought ready made this year. $14 each x 30 pieces= $420
Seuda- meat, wine, etc... I don't know. Maybe $300?

Cheers Party

Happy Purim all!

I’m so sorry. If it will make you feel better, you can share here. Let me know how I can help. I can pay for your grocery order or something else if you’d like. I would like to give to tzedaka tomorrow and prefer to give directly as opposed to an organization.

We are having dairy brunch so not exactly pricey. Meat would make it more expensive but this year want to do something in the morning so brunch it is

You're so kind. Thankfully I can afford what I need (so far).
It's more of an emotional deficit
I have friends who care about me but I am too deep in my depression
how ironic. at my worst on the happiest day of the year.

Trying to calculate...

We try to keep within a weekly food, household goods, cleaning supplies, clothing budget of 400$ a week. Some weeks cost less and the surplus is used for the weeks that cost more. We try not to go over this budget, if we can, no matter what's going on that week. So if a yom tov is coming up I'll try to save and plan in advance for it within the 400$ weekly budget. We didn't go over the budget for Purim.

So here is what I spent, spread out over the past six weeks or so:

50 adult shalach manos (little cakes with 2 winkies made into a 'magillah' taped to the top):
70$

16 'super special' shalach manos for rebbes, teachers: 40$

Teacher tips: 200$ (4 kids)

50 kid shalach manos: 50$

We made dessert for our family seudah: (3 types of cookies, several mousse pies, homemade krembos) 40$

Total: 400$

Maatanos leevyonim comes out my husband's tzaddaka budget. I have no idea how much he's giving on our behalf. From my own savings, I donated 350$ to a cause I care about. This did not come out of the weekly spending budget.

Let's say I spent $1000, does it make you happier that you spent less?

PSA, for all those who are saying that matanos le-evyonim is your husband's department: it's your mitzvah too. You should know how much you are giving.

I’m probably spending a max of $50. My shul is doing a to-go lunch, that is $20 for my family. And I’m probably spending around $30 max for food for food gifts. My kids are decorating paper bags we already have. And I’m doing small gifts like fruit leathers and fig or granola bars. I also made some apple kugels for 2 close family friends. I honestly don’t have the energy, time or $ to do fancy stuff. I’m keeping it small & simple.

Same! Most years we host tons of friends who don’t have family nearby and have a huge blowout with fleishig. This year with covid it’s just immediate family and with Friday my rabbi said it should be dairy so that we have an appetite for shabbos. Saved a ton of money!

IMO It's good to hear what others do so that you can gauge where you fall on the spectrum. IE if the price per shalach manos is way higher than others I know I can spend less next year, or if I'm giving way less in tips than most others and I can afford to give more maybe I'll reconsider for next yr.

Oh, also a different kind of entertainment, I'm following this thread.
