Hi
I was just offered the vaccine by my GP.

I am a keyworker.

I am just wondering why I have been offered it now.
I am very happy to take it, just didnt think I would be able to so early.
Im in my 20s.

I think they have a list of criteria of who they want to immunize. Like I know people working in care homes, and even Specialist Schools who were offered vaccines already a month or so back. I think they're really trying to get on with vaccinating as many people as possible. And key workers are important part of keeping the country running.

Thanks.
Im a teacher in a school.

But, my mom who is 50+ and has a health condition is still waiting for hers.

Just seems funny that I can already get mine.

I am so jealous - older than you, OP! There do seem to be inconsistencies in different geographical areas, also some people get "spares", when there's vaccine left at the end of the day that would otherwise go to waste (Pfizer).

Also, does that mean everyone I work with, and everyone at my setting will be offered it too?

I was just offered mine (I'm in London) because of my 'medical condition'. I'm 38, just had a baby and I have rheumatoid arthritis. I also just had Covid a couple of months ago. My mother is in her 60s and is a teacher and still wasn't offered hers. I'm not sure what to make of it.

If you were offered it through your GP, it's unlikely other people in your school will be offered it at the same time. Presumably your GP is going through the patients in the surgery and seeing who is eligible. AFAIK the specialist schools, staff were offered through the school, and the local authority, nothing to do with their GP.

It could be though, that if they ask their GP, they might be able to be eligible as well.

Did any of you who think you should be eligible call your surgery?
My parents didnt think they were, this was a while back, and they are both under 65. My father called the surgery to ask about sth, and they asked him why he hasn't booked a vaccine yet, he said he is waiting for a text. Turns out both my parents were supposed to receive one but didnt recieve a text for some reason.
My husband in his 30s was offered from his gp, I'm imagining because he has sleep apnea.

Hi

OP here, Iv got an appt for this week.

Iv got mixed feelings about it.
Feels a bit unethical to be taking it when people who need it more then me are still on the list...

I feel like I should ask a rov before I take it..

Any advice, thoughts..?

If you've been offered it, take it. If you decline it, others won't get it faster. It may just delay you getting invited for one again. I just received a letter for one and I'm in my low 30's. I'm a carer for my son who's vulnerable so I can get one but I'm pregnant (early) so I'll be waiting. Plus I have antibodies because I conceived right at the tail end of having the virus. Don't feel bad, take it. Hatzlocho

Every ethicist I’ve ever read says if you’re offered it and you qualify for the criteria, you should take it. Taking a stand in favor of those you believe deserve it more doesn’t actually help the process move faster, and the priority should be more vaccines in more arms as quickly as possible

Are they recommending people take it now if they have had covid in the past few months?

this! I totally agree with this.

I also can't control who will or gets to take it.

I was told I was eligible a couple weeks ago due to a role I have in my job. (but accessibility is another issue in NYS) As of now, I'm scheduled for mid April locally, unless I find something sooner locally.

The most important thing is that as many people get the vaccine as soon as possible. Of course, there is some preference to get those at greatest risk, etc. first, but it also has to be balanced by not letting preferential application delay the overall vaccination rate.

I assume the distribution is being prioritized based on what's most utilitarian (going to benefit the most people). Maybe they decided that a teacher is critical because if a teacher is out sick, that's a bunch of parents who need to stay home with children and that impacts the workforce and economy. Also a teacher can be considered at increased risk because children aren't getting vaccinated and can carry and pass on the virus without even showing symptoms.

An elderly person may be at increased risk, but until a vaccine is available, maybe the thinking is that they can try to isolate. A teacher can take certain precautions but unless it's remote learning, she can't really isolate.

Think of it as taking it for your community, not just for yourself.

I'm stunned that Police aren't prioritised - they are people-facing EVERY SINGLE DAY, and doing stuff like breaking up anti-vaxxer parties, and meeting different people all the time...it seems nuts!
