Did you use a private psychiatrist, a psychiatrist that took insurance, your regular pediatrician or something else?

What was your experience and how often do you follow up?

I use a psychiatric nurse practitioner, she is (relatively) affordable without private insurance.

DD is only two weeks in so I can't tell you much about the experience.

There will be a follow-up after 30 days, then I think every three months or more often if needed.

Different mom here. Looking into getting DD 9yo evaluated for ADD, insurance doesn’t cover anything. Are you in NY? If so can you share who you use?

She does. She has a number of offices so it might be worth looking into where they are in relation to where you live

I’m so confused. How come none of you did regular pediatric psychiatrist? That’s how I thought I’d do it.

Most pediatric pyschiatrists are private and don't take insurance and cost a fortune.

Because barely any take insurance and they’re close to $1000 for an initial consultation .

A developmental neuropediatrician is most likely a better choice and more qualified when dealing with a child. They can look at the bigger picture , especially when it’s complicated and you’re not exactly sure what you’re dealing with .

Better than a ped psychiatrist?
The plus side would be maybe they’d take my insurance

Pediatric psychologist. I have a good insurance plan that reimburses most of it, though.

A psychologist can't prescribe meds.
