I would probably do long dark grey pants. But you can technically do longer shorts too.

Plain white shell with plain white shorts or plain black shell with plain black shorts. Plain short socks the color of the shorts , and smoking flats.

hi, thanks for weighing in. so dh prefers when the kids dress more traditionally/ less trendy. would it look off with black suit pants and white shirt? son seems too young for traditional suit, so this would be middle of the road if it does not look super off/ clash etc.

I would do Grey suit pants in that case. And mandarin collar white shirt . Would still do the smoking flats .
