You will not find such a good job in Monsey. Pay here is a joke. I gave up looking for a job after 5 years, I wouldn't have come home with much after paying taxi and babysitter. Also, part time jobs are almost non existing here.

We live on a dead end somewhere off Union Road. It's the best thing bh. We've outgrown our apartment and are looking for 2 years already, we haven't seen a block that's as good as where we're living now and I'm not ready to give it up so fast. The new houses being built are tiny rooms and no grass. There's lot's of grass on our block.

I know some people in that area have knocked down their houses and built a large semi attached home in it's place, to help cover the cost of building.

No one in my area built or is building. All old houses. Building large houses takes away any grass or yard. There's no lawn or backyard if you build a big house.

Do those of you who moved not feel lonely to not be with your family? if you do not drive, do you feel like you are trapped in your house, b/c you have to constantly rely on taxis etc.?

My in laws live here. I don't think I would agree to move otherwise. I'm more of an independent type so I adjusted well bh. If you're very close to your family and always spend time with them and you have no one here, then moving out here is not for you.
One sister recently moved out and we spend a lot of time together. It's very annoying to rely on taxi's but I got used to it. I don't feel trapped in the house. My kids school allows driving with specific permission from the Rebba, but I'm too scared. Even if I would drive, we wouldn't get a 2nd car, it's very expensive.

I moved here as an older single (with my family) and stayed here after marriage, so I voted other.

We moved here because we have family, but the adjustment was very hard even being able to drive.

If you do not have family here and you don't drive, STAY IN THE CITY. Especially as housing prices keep going up and people move farther and farther out in order to get big houses for good prices so then the taxi cost offsets the savings.

The very first few years I did feel quite lonely, till I became comfortable with my neighbors. These days it happens from time to time but generally not.

Trapped? In Brooklyn I felt my house is throwing me out. A few weeks after moving I remember talking to my mom and told her, can you imagine, it's Wednesday and I haven't gone out yet this week??? And I don't feel like I missed something. I enjoyed sitting and looking at my somewhat spacious apt where I was able BREATHE Smile
Although my apt isn't huge, it's considered comfortable according to what they build now. Yes, they build now small and put in more apt in a property.

Taxis was pretty an adjustment, like why can't I just walk to get some silly clothing? Lol but I got used to It pretty soon. I did mention I walk a lot, I'm fairly walking distance from everything. Sometimes I walk both ways. But many times I take a taxi one way and walk one way.

Pay is to the lower side here. I remember my husband looking for a job outside Monsey for a better pay. I have a friend who moved out after me and was able to 'take along' her job, was a big win for her.

I shouldn't have clicked on this post, now I just got more anxiety about my move after yt. Yikes.

However, I will be in the center of Monsey, a fantastic neighborhood from what I've heard, I have young kids, hopefully with enough time to get into mosods imyh, and I work from home. I am considering a job out of the house but not yet so I can adjust to life in Monsey first.

Also moving this time of year is great, the weather will be perfect for the outdoors and I am very happy I decided to take the plunge and move. I don't have much family in Monsey but I will live half-way from both my parents and in-laws.

Any young family moving out is smart for doing so; the cost of apartments in Brooklyn is insane and I will end up paying way less for a way bigger apartment than I would living here. So for me, the pros outweigh the cons for sure. My only worry is fitting in and finding friends. I do know some people but not that many as of yet. I also really love to walk and have no issue taking my child to playgroup/babysitter without needing a car (not planning to drive).

That sounds exactly like me! I live in a one-bedroom apartment with 2 cribs in my room. It's crazy. I also live in a neighborhood where I need to walk at least 10 mins to get to any store. And I can't wait to just be in my bigger house (also not huge but big for my size family) and just be more relaxed!

You are VERY late in the game for finding schools for this coming September. Registration for the next school year is Chanukah. Good luck and be ready for it to be an anxiety ridden process. Unless you belong somewhere and you know for sure that you'll get accepted. It's heartache.

I know it's really hard, I've heard a looooot about it. It is crazy.

I don't plan on sending my daughter to school this coming September yet; my daughter is 2 and I don't need to send her before she's over 3. We do belong to a specific mosod but I'm not sure yet if I want to send there. I know I'll have to work hard to get her into school but I'm trying to be positive about it.

Good luck! If you belong to a certain mosdos and you apply to a different school, you'll probably be told to send where you belong. Good luck! The situation isn't pretty.

We are moving to Monsey, iyh, in June. We are closing on a house, iyh, next week. We chose to move out of Brooklyn because our area of Brooklyn is terrible. No parking, claustrophobic living. I'm tired of seeing people outside every window of my house, in our shared driveway, looking in our front windows, worrying about my kids being near strangers at the park... We found a big, lovely home in Monsey and we're moving to change our pace of life. Have privacy, space to breathe, a pool of our own, a driveway, less stress... My MIL is in Monsey, my sister and a close set of friends. It's not too many people but we'll adjust. Schools are the biggest stress for me. We didn't get in anywhere we applied and my daughter is looking at school in Passaic and my boys wound up somewhere more modern than we were hoping for. But everything happens for a reason and iyh, we won't regret this. If we do, we can always sell and move elsewhere. I work in NYC three days a week and two from home. My job pays for my commute so it's really no different for me. BH, we are very blessed and moving to Monsey means no more mortgage. Yes, tuitions are definitely higher than currently but I still think its worth it. Guess we'll see, lol.
