jusy an intersting note, every person takes up about 500 BTU so if you have 5,000 BTU in a room with 10 people, you woul dnot think the AC is on as it will be quite hot...

b"H we have central a/c!! my dh and I are always fighting over the temp. on the thermostat. I've been nudging it higher ever since we got our last electric bill shock . my kitchen is so hot- even w/ the c a/c.
the problem I have w/ our a/c is that when it's on it's freezing- I bury myslef under my down blanket, but w/ in a few minutes after it reaches the cool temp and turns off, I'm shvitzing!

he tells me that just one flame on the stove puts out 9000BTU's of heat, and that it doesn't matter what you do, an AC simply can't handle that - most units are 5000 BTU's.

most units are 5000? what does that mean?

I have 8000 in the bedroom. 10,000 in the kitchen. 13,500 in the living room. You can get whatever you want Confused

Portable ACs r usually 5,000 BTU. Bigger ones usually come with parts to make it fit in a window.

point is - it's not "one size fits all"

you pick the BTU's based on the size of the room, location of a/c, activity in that room

I can't believe that there are 18% of ppl on this board that have no air conditioner.
I thought I was the only one.
I tried one in my room but it didn't help.
I though that maybe it was too small, but I saw that I'm hot in e/one's house, I sweat alot and a cool room doesn't help me, I need to stand next to the air conditioner and it has to blow right on my chest, if I go away for a few secs. I become all wet again.
At home I use fans that I found in Wal-Mart for 13 dollars. I bought 3 of them, and keep one in every room, and it helps a bit.
