My work history: I vacillate between being a SAHM and working at teaching jobs, I’ve never had a traditional desk job.
My pregnancies are sort of- high risk, and as they progress I need to go into Manhattan for various scans and appointments. It becomes weekly toward the last few months and the appointments take a while just because of the traveling, and if there’s a problem chV sometimes I have to wait there a bit.
I want a desk job now, and I am not pregnant, but I wonder: what do high-risk pregnant women without flexibility in their jobs do toward the end of the of their pregnancy? Obviously my pregnancy will be top priority but sometimes that entails a lot of time out. Can you tell me about your experiences?

Every person is entitled to sick days. You state has a policy of the minimum that your employer is required to give. Use your sick time.

You will have to schedule for before or after work generally, don’t teachers need to do that too?

Save all your PTO/vacation days.
You may need to take (1/2) days without pay or adjust hours to make up the missed time.
Wishing you hatzlacha with both the job but and future pregnancies.

Teaching is a more flexible job. I didn’t teach Monday-Friday 9-5. There are some days off, sometimes I could switch periods...
I don’t think the doctor’s office is open at times that I wouldn’t have to miss work at all for the appointments. The traveling alone can be a couple of hours.
I can see trying to get really early appointments like at 8 am, I think this office sometimes has early appts.

Thanks. I am petrified. It’s really hard jumping back in after leading such a different kind of lifestyle until now.

If I can’t take a personal day for whatever reason I take a tablet and do my work remotely.

Not all jobs allow that.

I'm a seit and I have this problem and supposedly I have flexibility. I also have hi risk pregnancies and I'm seen twice a monthstarting at 16 weeks with heavy duty scans and when I hit the third trimester I have appointments twice a week. And I need to go into Manhattan. My appointments are more exhausting than my job itself and it all feels too much for me. I end up not going to work on days that I have appointments. And I don't get sick days. Working 30 hours earns me one sick hour. Not day. It's all very exhausting. I was very angry at my obgyn that he refused to fill out disability for me. If you expect me half of my life at appointments how am I supposed to do my job????

Personally I think if OP does not have a job now she is best off learning a skill set that allows you some flexibility. Besides for pregnancy other stuff in life comes up and if you do good work and your employer depends on you you can often work out a compromise.

My boss is not a big fan of WFH but he needs the work I do for him so we have been able to work it out when necessary.

One of my coworkers is diabetic. She waited until she was vaccinated to get pregnant. She schedules her appointments for after work, but obviously she is not at the end of her pregnancy. I would assume she would do the same in a few months. Maybe it depends on what your risks are, idk.

Honestly OP this is literally the reason I keep my job even thought I don't really like it-because it is very flexible and I can take off whenever I need (I am paid hourly so I just dont get paid when I don't work)

I also have high risk pregnancies and a ton of prenatal appointments. Furthermore I have a health condition that also requires me to to see my specialist dr in that field many times throughout a pregnancy to monitor my condition. I cannot schedule appointments after work- I use top drs in Manhattan who work very limited hours in the office-they are faculty and do teaching/research, so for example they may only see patients from 9-1 and then do other stuff in the afternoons.

I dont have any PTO or sick/vacation days
