My toddler got ahold of a tube of desitin on Shabbos and smeared it all over himself and some other clothing items. I followed instructions I found online (see below) to use dish soap to clean it, but it didn't work. Any other advice?

Dish soap works but you need to scrub so hard your hands hurt for days. If your hands are not red and sore and swollen, you didn't do the job right.

Beware articles advising using WD-40 as a stain remover. WD-40 is oil-based and can stain fabric. Test Lestoil or Pine-Sol on a hidden part of the garment as they, too, can stain.

I meant the instructions under Dish-Washing Liquid, not the version using WD40 or Lestoil.

Right, so I followed those instructions using Dawn, but the clothing is still stained.

Oy! That is so upsetting! What type of garment and how big is the stain?

Are your hands swollen?
If they aren't, then you didn't do it correctly.
I know. I just did this last night. Your fingers should really hurt.

A Shabbos sweater and children's place chinos. There are multiple stains all over.

Maybe not swollen, but I scrubbed A LOT.

You're going to need tons of elbow grease (that means working hard at the scrubbing). You need to scrub scrub scrub. Soak soak soak. Dish soap and hot water.

I wish I could tell you it will come out from one try. It won't. It can take many days and many attempts.

Be gentle on the sweater so the knit doesn't pill or unweave.

So no magic formula, huh? Sigh. I'll keep at it. Thanks!

Ok so pour baking soda all over the clothing.
Let it sit.
Rinse off.
Take dish soap and do those steps but
Put a tights on your hands.
Rinse the tights after 3-5 minutes and then rub again.
Repeat.
Repeat.
Scrub for 30 minutes.
I don't know if the clothing is worth the time though.
