my girls have really sensitive ears
14 kt gold earrings also bother them
any ideas?

If they can't wear 14k, and assuming the ears/earrings are being kept with good hygiene, they may not be able to tolerate them at all:(
I do know people who just aren't able to.

Mine are pretty sensitive and they've gotten infected several times over the years (I actually had to get them repierced a couple times over the years after the holes closed due to infection) but I can tolerate 14k earrings, at least.

surgical steel and hoops.
If you are looking to spend a lot of money, 18k gold or platinum may also work.

Got my girls surgical steel for under $30.
14k gold they couldn’t tolerate. Also couldn’t tolerate the posts. A hoop allows more space and air around the hole.

You can try changing the post to 18k. I did that for myself. DD can't have on the ear earrings even with 18k posts. Strong possibility that she will outgrow it. I did.
