In memoriam of Daffys, Syms, Loehmanns, Boltons, Century, all who put up a valiant struggle to survive as sources of designer clothing at a disount, BDE

Nebach they were Karbanos of internet shopping (nothing like shopping in the flesh) and Covid.

Which stores are taking their place?

I loved Loehmann's. My mom took me there when I was a teen and super skinny and I saw all the frum women in their underwear and wondered if I would ever look like them. I do.

I have memories of my mother taking my much-older sister there and I was like 3-5 years old and would have fun "disappearing" into their huge clothing racks.

I miss Kaufmann's department stores. It was bought out by Macy's when I was in my teens. They had great clothes. Macys just wasn't the same after that.

Thats old news, and American Dream isnt doing well.

"Within the American Dream complex, 1.3 million square feet, or 45% of the mall’s space, is retail space. Lord & Taylor, Barneys New York, Century 21, and The Gap have pulled out of the mall — some because of bankruptcies and others because of a lack of confidence. Right now, traffic is only 25% of what was expected."

https://www.forbes.com/sites/w.....94616

It seems they dont have a firm plan on any locations yet.

"Benitez did not say definitively whether the company would re-open its lower Manhattan flagship that survived the 9/11 attacks."

Theres Nordstrom Rack, Off 5th, Bloomingdale’s Outlet in NYC too. Theyre ok, but not the same selection. They dont have all sizes of an item, theyre store leftovers.

I loved Daffys.

Leohmans was awful. I used to hate going and refused to go into the dressing room with my mom and aunt. Instead my cousin and I would go and rip the extra button packets off everything we could.

How would you like others to make similar damage in your store?

That’s why the mall is great, you can go to all the different outlets in one place if you don’t score at one. There used to be a Century there too.

I was 4 and no one was watching me. You're right it's awful.

Best to leave kids out of the boring grown up shopping and definitely out of the communal dressing rooms.
