Looking for answers from physical therapists or anyone who has experienced something like this:

I know that there are a lot of issues with my body. I have sway back/lordosis (self diagnosed), probably a small degree of diastasis recti as well. I have terrible posture, very tight hamstrings, dormant glute muscles. Due to the lordosis and dormant glutes my behind sticks out and I have excess fat there and on my thighs. I also have a weak core.

I would like to get a full body evaluation from a physical therapist, as I feel like I can’t google exercises due to the multiple issues, the issues may
overlap and I need a professionals guidance.

Do physical therapists evaluate you from head to toe and then make recommendations to target the whole body? Or would I need to focus on one issue at a time?

Looking for advice on this and recommendations for a PT in the Lakewood area.

Thanks!

My pelvic floor therapist looks at the whole body and does exercises to address the issues which are usually related.

Thing is I don’t think I have any pelvic floor issues- so I didn’t think I should look for that kind of PT

I’m not familiar with the differences between regular and pelvic PT but she definitely works on Diastisis recti and other issues you mentioned. Weak core for sure.

Wow, I’m having a similar situation- multiple issues that I need tackled by a PT.
The thing is that they can only treat what’s on the script. (Depends on the state, though)
So if you can talk to whomever is writing the script and get them to write something broad- that might be helpful.
Maybe they can even write “full body evaluation” -I don’t know.
If not, maybe they can write something broad like “low back and gluts; core strengthens”

I’m in PT for a couple of issues which is tricky because it’s two separate areas.
But then my shoulder started hurting, and now my ankle. It’s embarrassing-and I very much feel like I need a full body approach. I’d love to hear what actual PT’s answer you.

My daughter, a physical therapist, told to write this. Most PTs are well versed in all these issues and would be able to help you. She recommends that you make sure you get a manual therapist, but she did say it sounds like a pelvic floor specialist would probably help you most.

Thank you so much for your responses EPL, scarlet, and jet black. I’m happy to have gotten clarity that a pelvic floor therapist can help with these issues. EPL, what’s a manual therapist? Sounds like a chiropractor? Or is it another specialty in PT?

Any other physical therapists want to chime in with advice?

Thanks 🙏🏼

A manual therapist does more hands on treatment , which is typically higher quality. You should ask the therapist whether they are a manual therapist.

I’m a PT. In many states now you don’t even need a prescription from a doctor for PT but done insurance companies still want it. A regular orthopedic PT should be able to help you. The root of most of your issues is postural and related to your weak core.

Thanks so much. That makes sense. In your experience how long does it take to strengthen the core? What kind of exercises? Is it something that must be done under guidance of a PT? Should I look up exercises and start doing it myself before I find and start with a PT?

Absolutely go to a PT, working with an expert is always best. If you do the exercises wrong you could hurt yourself.
