Silver Spring is in between Baltimore and DC and has much more affordable hotel options than DC, as well as shuls and kosher shopping. For DC a lot depends on the age of your kids and what's open now due to COVID. Even places that are open will likely require advance reservations, so please plan in advance.

The zoo is outdoors and should be open, and the Smithsonian is free and usually great for kids. We really enjoyed the Spy Museum and Ford's Theater, plus of course seeing the White House, Capitol, Washington Monument, and Lincoln Memorial. If you have boys who like planes, there's a second part of the Air & Space Museum called Udvar-Hazy in Virginia that's wonderful.

I was looking into this as well. Unfortunately it looks like most tourist attractions are closed.

Bumping this, anyone have information regarding food?
I will be in DC one day next week from about 8AM to 8PM, would like to get brunch and dinner. I would do Chinese for dinner but can do anything else.

Thanks, I've eaten there before and wasn't very impressed, is there somewhere less "touristy"?

ETA- I don't mind spending if it's a nice relaxing steakhouse with good food, otherwise I would rather just pick up something like Chinese to go.

Charbar is the only place in dc. There are many restraints in silver spring but it is a 25m drive away. For Chinese there is holy chow.

Planning a trip to Washington DC
Anyone stay at the Double Tree in Silver Spring on Colesville Rd
Or Courtyard by Marriott on Fenton St in Silver Soring?
