It's a grandma name. Cuter in Hebrew than in English.

Judy can also be called Jodi for a modern twist. Yehudis is beautiful with quite a story.

The Jewish equivalent of Jane. Iow, plain vanilla. Not a name people would react to violently one way or another. Easy to pronounce, probably considered old fashioned nowadays, but not repellent. I agree that for an official name I would use Judith. She can call herself Judy if she likes but if, when she's applying to medical school or is being considered for a spot on the Supreme Court, she feels it makes her sound like one of the Seven Dwarfs, she can revert to Judith.

Personally I prefer Yehudit. Not Yehudis, certainly not Yudis. Yehudit, pronounce Ye-hoo-DEET.

Subbing an I for a y is offputting. You're trying too hard to be cute or different and it shows. And Jodi makes her sound like a person unsure of its gender.

Nobody thinks of Jodi/Jody as a boy's name anymore. Not for at least 50 years. It's like the name Ashley, Stacey, or Leslie, nobody would ever see those names and think it's a boy's name nowadays.
Do you think "Chani" vs "Chanie" or "Channy" is trying too hard to be cute, lol?
