Do you have to take paint your own pottery to the mikvah?

No.
The pottery is not viable until you've done the "makel b'patish" (final step) of firing it. Until then it is not considered a kli.
You pay for the pottery before it is placed in the kiln, at which point you already own it. It's a kli that has never been owned by a non-jew, so tovelling is unnecessary.

We hold you do need to toivel it, because it's finished by a non Jew in the kiln. But no brachah. If we do the type of painting where there's no firing, or it's fired by a Jew, then we don't.
