but its the same problem as the school she uses now. They make you have straight Medicaid and they bill away and don't spend a dollar if your child needs something special for them and are not that helpful and knowledgeable in getting assistive devices from insurance.

I know they get all their children devices and buy equipment for the children I’m not sure about getting things from insurance we never tried. What types of things do you get from insurance?

Straight Medicaid is a huge problem for me. The specialists dont really take it. Now I can have a private insurance plan tog with straight Medicaid where but still dosent help with the co payments and all.

They are often willing to pay for specialists

I worked at some d75 schools years ago and if you have good ones near you that is a good free option.

Op, no advice on schools, other than commiserate. It’s a huge hassle and headache Sad.

Just regarding the private/straight Medicaid insurance, we just did this & we get reimbursed through the state. Straight Medicaid does pick up on the coinsurance and copays. If you want more info on this I can post with my sn for a few minutes or post an anonymous email address.
Good luck with all

I'm aware I can get reimbursed but it's a huge hassle.

Does your dd have bilingual yiddish on her IEP? I considered bi-y when ds was turning 5, but was told that it's unlikely he would get in since I don't live near one, he has ASD not MR, (although his IQ is in the MR range), and he's mandated a 6, not a 12. Ds lost the bilingual Yiddish on his IEP the next year, since he never knew Yiddish to begin with.
Ds goes to Reach for the stars on Avenue P and East 18th. They don't use Medicaid or private insurance to get funding. Every parent has to lay out $128,000 every year, and we still didn't get reimbursed for last year's tuition. Every year, I hope the public school placement would work out, but I never found a program with an appropriate curriculum, peanut free, able to handle airborne allergies, and has general common sense about health and safety. The best placement ds was offered was Mickey Mantle school on the upper west side, but they told me that they can't handle airborne allergies since they share a building and can't make the other 2 schools peanut free. The next to best placement was ps138 in Chelsea, but once again, it's a shared building, and ds could easily run away and escape since the school they share with is huge. I wasn't satisfied with their safety plan since ds is a runner, but if your dd isn't a runner and doesn't have allergies, those are two schools that may be worth considering.
