We’re moving to Baltimore and I don’t have a morah for my son yet. Do I stand a chance of getting him in somewhere?

You can send him to TA or TI at this point and get into their wonderful programs. The preschools are full day and the tuition is just about the same as one of the playgroups. Most people start to send to one of the big schools in the 4 year old year, but we started in the 3s and many many others do also.

I called them and they said they don’t accept 3 year olds. (He just turned 3)
Should I still try?

Who did you call? TA has two three year old rooms.

Yup. From their website: Led by Mrs. Beily Rosen, the TA Early Childhood Program offers a safe, nurturing, warm and developmentally appropriate environment for students ages 3-5.

My son was there in the Yellow Kitah in the 3s a few years ago. It is amazing.

The same way you are only now moving to Baltimore, people last minute move from Baltimore or last minute decide not to send their kid to a playgroup. Put yourself on all the wait lists.

TI also offers 3's but only one class as opposed to K and Pre- 1A that are 4 parallel classes. Try them, maybe they still have space. Most people though send to home playgroups for 3's but they are all probably full by now. You have to apply Chanukah time at the latest to get a spot in the good ones.

Try Ner Tamid Montessori. I used to work there. Nice frum environment (the kids mostly go on to TA, Bais Yaakov and Bnos). Friendly staff.

And yes- get on wait lists! People really do drop spots.

Try Cheder Chabad. I've heard the preschool doesn't only have chabadniks and it's supposed to be excellent. If you're not Chabad you can always apply somewhere else for 4's

It might be helpful for you to get onto the Nshei Pickwick group. You can ask there. It is a very big group and there are constantly discussions about playgroups. Email nsheipickwick@gmail.com and ask to be added.
