I want to get my DD16 a nice bag for trips in camp etc. for her birthday. I found this one on sale in a store, is that what is in style? if not, what is in style? links would be helpful.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod.....27a92

I also saw some backpacks (sme very small and some medium) in target....

As far as Target is concerned, I'd get her any one of these:

Thank you so much for the help and honesty.

I see based on the Target links you attached, crookshank, that the girls are using full size square shaped backpacks.

I am more a "style should be basically good, doesnt matter if it is brand name" type, so target works for me. But I guess kipling is too nerdy of a brand, plus what I got was small. I will return.

I have in mind that she will use it for overnight camp trips and on the bus plus of course for after as well. Is this style backpack that you linked the way to go or do the girls take something else. I am open to other suggestions.

I have never heard of fjallraven of herschel but looked them up on amazon. There are tons of styles from messenger to tote to backpack....can you link ones that would be good? but again, I don't NEED brand recognition. (unless she does...)

Fjallraven bags are very small. I wouldn't use them for trips because she'll have no room. If it's a serious overnight, any duffel bag is good. For Herschel bags, they were very in style when I was in HS. I don't know if they're still in but they're great bags. I'll link some I really like below.

By the time I was 16 I picked out my clothing and accessories.

I would much more have preferred that my mother allowed me to pick out such an important item so that it was completely what I wanted. I am sure your daughter knows exactly what she wants.

Even with the grandchildren now, when the girls are given a "budget" for shopping as a gift instead of items she picks because they want exactly what they want. My mother will often have a fun day when she takes them shopping because they aren't young enough to go shopping by themselves.

Thanks for the links!
The puma duffel is nice, but do they use that for a day trip/outing?

It's for going away for 1/2 nights, like over Shabbos. Not for a day trip. They're pretty big, and can't go on your shoulders like a backpack.
