I've used one of the heimish brands over Pesach and didn't like it, it reminded me of pineapple, but I don't remember which one I used. Which brand do you like best, and which flavor of that brand?

Mikee's. Not a typical bbq sauce flavor, a bit on the sweet side. We love it. It's great on chicken.

My own or rather the one I make from an Ina Garten Barefoot Contessa recipe - It's basically just a dump of ingredients type of recipe. It makes a huge pot that keeps for awhile and takes almost no time to put together and then it simmers for a bit on the stove.

It's a combination of the three basic types - Chinese, Southern and Carolina styles. Smile

My family likes Jack Daniel's BBQ sauce but we haven't been able to find it lately and none of the other BBQ sauces I've tried have gone over as well.

Best bbq sauce I ever had was called Rufus Teague or something like that. Then I noticed fish in the ingredients. It has OU - not OU fish label. But I could never get a clear answer that this was ok to eat on meat so stopped buying. Sad

Now I buy the bone sucking sauce. It's not my favorite tasting one - I like a bit sweeter - but I don't like to buy anything with corn syrup so it's good enough. I add honey or maple syrup once in a while to sweeten up.

Our favorites are stubbs, bone sucking sauce, trader joes, rufus teague. I wont buy ones with High Fructuose Corn syrup which is the first ingredient in tons of sauces.

Sweet is a decided Ashkenazi food preference. There is a line in Europe which separates those groups preferring sweet gefilte fish.

Not that "sweet" isn't a flavor preference of many non-Jewish people as well since sweet is wired into our genetic code. Some say it is because there are very few foods which are sweet and not poisonous. And of course until relatively recently, sweet was a luxury that very few could afford - there was honey and that was difficult to procure.

Same!! Has it gone away? I’ve been having trouble finding it too and it really is the best.
