I use to do it on my own/turbotax
Then one year I saw I owed $ so I tried an accountant who was like $50 and he knew a lot of stuff I didnt know about (mainly because I am partially self employed so I didnt know about expenses etc) and I realized spending on him actually saves money
Too bad he isnt $50 anymore

What do you mean by uncomplicated. If your income is all salary and you don't have unusual deductions apart from mortgage, medical, dependents, it is easy and free to do your own. Turbotax is relatively cheap as well.

Most people with straight income and ordinary deductions don't even itemize because the standard deduction is higher.

If you have investment income, or are 1099 in terms of income or have some form of out of the ordinary deductions, then you are probably better off hiring someone. If you itemize deductions, your tax preparation is a deduction next year anyway.
