Can anyone explain what"investing" and building a portfolio means? Where do you invest? Who helps you? How much capital is needed?

You can start your own brokerage account at Schwab, Fidelity, or Vanguard. If you don't know what you're doing, invest in one or more index funds and balance across various asset classes - stocks, bonds, international, large cap, small cap, etc.

If that sounds overwhelming, just go for an S&P 500 or Total Market or Balanced fund, depending on how much risk you want to take. You can start with just a few hundred or a few thousand.

If you have more than 50k or 100k, it often pays to have a professional do it for you. If you're looking for one feel free to PM me for name and contact info.

You can invest in whole life insurance - very low risk and smaller monthly payments. Plus the benefit of life ins.
You can invest in real estate...

Real estate - many options:
- Buy your own 100%
- Buy with investors - you buy building. Others give you money toward down payment. You manage building. Give quarterly dividends (8-10% not guaranteed) and when refinance pay back principal. They own part of building.
- Invest with someone else. Same as above but it’s their headache. Typically you need 100-250k minimum depending who you go with.

Stocks or mutual funds. You can get some with decent dividends that you can either get paid to you or constantly reinvest.

Invest money in someone else’s business or startup. You get from profits, own portion of company. If they sell you get money for your percentage.

All the above have tremendous risk. Mutual funds are the least risky but won’t build wealth quickly
