I mean, all six months olds are probably messy eaters, but is there any type of clothes that don't ruin right away when the baby drools apple sauce etc on them? Or do I just need a good bib?

Bibs. We never have a meal or a bottle without one

There is a type of jacket with sleeves
Type of a cardigan with the button up in the back. Will save you tons and tons of laundry.
No jacket= no food or drink.

We bought bibs with sleeves from IKEA. They work great.

We use bibs. My nephew was such a messy eater that my SIL used to undress him down to his diaper before every meal to save his clothes.

I literally never knew that there are people who don’t use bibs. Why?

Either no brain or absolutely LOVE to do extra laundry. Or both

One? Do you wash them in between each meal, or is my baby messier than most?

Eh I wouldn't go that far. Some people strip their baby down before and wash them off after, or all of the clothes are white and they bleach them after, or they buy cheap baby clothes and don't care if they get stained (I find it wasteful but I know families that do this... They buy a ton of cheap thrift baby clothes and give them away/toss after each baby). There could be many reasons

Personally we use regular bibs for most food and use a smock for things like popsicles and soup

The smocks are easy to rinse off and dry quickly. But I suggest having two if you give baby a lot of messy, sticky foods like soup, avocado, etc. Big towel bibs are nice, too.

Guess I've been using the wrong kind of bib. Not enough coverage so clothes get messy anyway so

What I meant was prevention is always smarter.

Because my kid would pull it off the second I wrestled her into it. Funny part is now as a toddler she asks for it Smile

We just fed her naked in the morning and evening for a while till she got better at it.

I bib from birth. Feeds are fabric bibs and food is plastic or vinyl. Bib on means something’s coming!

Yeah, that was the problem: my kid hated eating / drinking until around 8 months.

Do you have a link to the smocks you use? The ones I have need to be thrown in the wash after each use... I have four and it’s not enough.
