My dh just bought fresh yeast. I wanted to use it but it's 4 days past the date (22/06). Can I use it? I tested it and it bubbled just right
Thanks in advance

If it bubbled and looked active then it's normal and it should be fine

If it bubbles it's fine. That means it's alive. That's all you need. Any "gross" smell would be a fermented, beer-y smell, but even that isn't bad. Since yeast is a living organism, as long as it's still alive, it's still good to use. Keep in mind traditional methods of utilizing yeast, before supermarkets, were sourdough starters that were handed down for generations and buckets of grape juice/apple juice/honey water/etc that were left open to collect natural yeast and ferment on its own. All the expiration date on a package of yeast means is that the manufacturer can't guarantee it's still alive after that date. Since yours obviously is, you're good to go

It sounds like it's still good - use it! Maybe make a few batches challah now so you can use it up, as it won't last much longer.
