Shmuel Bassman has online/USB lessons, very affordable.

I've taught my girls to play Jewish music myself. I have all sorts of music books in the house with songs they like (journeys, dveikus, there's an Israeli series that we have a few of) and I taught them basic note reading, then added accompanying chords, showed them different techniques, some exercises.
Working on my youngest now.

Some kids if they play around enough can learn on their own to play a tune by ear. Chords are more complicated. But if you learn the basics from a book, they can do Jewish songs by ear too.

Depends what kind of learner your child is.
I needed lessons with a teacher for piano and guitar.
Once I had about 6 lesson I was able to continue online or through books.
I had tried guitar online and just didn't get it. (I was already playing the piano by then, but it was still too confusing to learn it that way.)
