Only possible with vaccines that contain a weakened virus, like MMR and varicella for example. Theoretically for a short time after getting these vaccines you could be "shedding" small amounts of virus (usually in the stool), probably not enough to make anyone sick.

Literally IMPOSSIBLE with the covid vaccine. Just... cannot happen.

This isn't what is being discussed now as 'shedding' or post vaccine 'transmission'

MMR doesn't shed BTW.

So someone please explain the following to me
DD 22, had ASYMPTOTIC covid, in March
Tested for antibodies positive in March
Tested for antibodies positive again in September

Recently she had between a bad cold and a very light flu. She lost her sense of smell
She tested negative for covid, positive for antibodies AND positive for the protein that she took the vaccine

Something weird is going on

My mom lost her sense of smell to flu 30 years ago. BH it returned a year later. ENT said this is something he's dealt with in his practice for decades.

Not sure I’ll have to ask her

Her sense of smell came back in 2 days

There are two types of antibody tests being done right now:
1. IgG Antibody test — this is the antibody test that people have been using for the last year or so. It will come up positive after natural Covid infection. It may or may not come up positive after vaccination, so it’s not a reliable test as to whether the vaccine worked.
2. Spike Protein Antibody test — this is a newer antibody test designed as a more reliable way to test if the vaccine has provided protection. It will come up positive after either natural Covid infection OR vaccination.

So, if your daughter still has antibodies from getting Covid last year, it is expected that the spike protein antibody test would also come up positive. There is no test for having taken the vaccine that wouldn’t also show immunity from natural infection.

So her antibodies are still viable
Since last March when covid first started over 1 yr

Looked into it a little further and it seems that the measles and mumps parts do not shed, the rubella part can shed (it doesn't in everyone... only about 10-50% of people).
(And it sheds through the stool, so handwashing after diaper changing/going to the bathroom should take care of that!)

Yup, she still has antibodies. Antibodies seem to fade at pretty different rates in different people. It’s also quite possible that she has been exposed since then which has helped keep her immunity up.

Anyone that claimed that only live virus vaccines can shed should read this research paper by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Food and Drug Administration, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research from August 2015. https://21a86421-c3e0-461b-83c.....1.pdf

MRNA vaccines are a form of gene therapy like crspr etc.

That's is a guide from for how to conduct a study on shedding re: an oncolytic or VGBT, with speculation on why that might be a possibility in certain cases and why it should be studied. It doesn't say that any study ever found it to be the case.

Btw I've 'lost my sense of smell' with colds many times. Congestion can do that to you.

The issue with covid vaccine is not shedding. The issue is that some people getting the vaccine will get colonized with covid but won't have symptoms since that's basically the purpose of this particular vaccine. It works to protect the vaccinated person by decreasing the severity of symptoms. Since the individual is not symptomatic, they don't stay home and can be a carrier to unvaccinated people

Right, it can.

It might.

It hasn't been ruled out as impossible.

It warrants further study.

Exactly why some people are uncomfortable with getting the vaccine now before full long term studies have been completed.

How could you shed the virus if you are never exposed to it?

(The covid vaccine doesn't "work" through exposure to the virus)

It's not the virus...its the spike protein that's in the vaccines.
