Hi!

We are basicially 'under' sluchim from the sluchim in the city and now we are hosting a yemenite boy, and I really want to make something yemenite for lunch for him.

Any ideas?

Hilbeh, good chummus, pargiot with schwarma spice, jachnun or melawach with grated tomato and overnight brown eggs.

I'm not temani and don't eat lentils on shabbat (it's considered food of aveilut by us). But if you do then mejadra.

It's sweet of you to think of him and want to make something special.

Maybe he's tired of his usual food, and would enjoy something new and interesting?

If I traveled to Yemen, I'd be upset if I got cholent and kugel for Shabbos.

Lol - was thinking the same thing. Maybe have 1 or two side dish foods that he is used to but then make a regular shabbos.

Bury raw eggs in the cholent. They will cook overnight and turn brown. Then rinse and serve (they will need to be peeled once cool enough to handle).

This. Malawach and Jachnun I buy from freezer section. Really if you have good chummus and fresh salatim with no mayo just good vegetables you are good.

Yeah in the NL you can't get Jachnun or Malawach kosher from the fridge section... @FF he hasn't seen his family in a year since covid because they live abroad that is why.
