My friend’s daughter is named this. They spell it with a Z, Zipporah.
FYI, we are Ashkenazi, Americans.

I spell it Tzipora, but whenever people need to write my name I say "one P, no H." I've seen it with any combination of one P/2 Ps/yes H/no H, but usually starting with Tz. Starting with Z or C is less accepted. However you spell it, people are going to misspell it!
BTW, contrary to a poster above, I like to be consistent with the spelling of the first and second name, ie, either both end with H (if relevant) or both do not end with H (ie Tzipora Chana or Tziporah Chanah).

my daughter is tzipporah and niece is tzipora. I feel so bad that I gave my daughter such a long name to learn to write. do the shorter version.

Anglos don't have an inherent problem with TZ (unlike chet). Just tell them it's like the tz in saying "fat zebra" really fast. I've taught a few anglos to say it that way, all succesful. |
