My 10 yo DS has been complaining the past few nights that he can't fall asleep because his stomach hurts so bad. It is usually pretty ok during the day, with some pain here and there, but it's bad at night time. He's not the type to complain just to get out of going to sleep. I think this is legit. After how many nights do I call Dr? And should I still call if he's fine in the morning?
Any ideas what it could be?

Do a food diary and wrote down what he's eating every day.
My DS had this and it turned out to be dairy. Now he takes lactaid every time he eats dairy, and uses almond milk in his cereal instead of cow's milk, and stomach aches are gone bH.

Adding to other good suggestions that it is usually beneficial to sleep while lying on the left side. This helps digestion overnight.

Just to add, at the advice of my pediatrician, I completely took him off of all dairy products for 2 weeks and his stomach aches went away. Then I tried him on it again and it returned with a vengeance. So it became pretty clear what the issue was.

Could it be that hes not drinking enough water during the day?

For my ds it was also dairy.
Stomach hurt only at night.
It was temporary lactose intolerance (he was post strep and sometimes antibiotics can cause temporary lactose intolerance)
I think we started him on lactaid and it resolved BH.
We were desperate for an answer- and BH his allergist made this suggestion. But I see from this thread my ds was not the only one.
