anyone have any books they can recommend?
I don't want to read my regular novels, id rather get a book that's more inspirational or about overcoming difficulties. something I wont feel guilty reading.

Terror and Emunah in Har Nof might be a good segueway to heavier reading for you.
Princes Among Men about the boys killed in Merkaz Harav Hyd.
Those Who Never Yielded.
Rabbi Yosef Friedensohn's memoirs.
If you can find it Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan has a book on churban bayis Rishon.

Far from the place we called home is an incredible novel.
Forever my Jerusalem
Both emotionally evocative.
How about Chains (chained?) by Leah Gebber.
(In all of these books you have to be careful to skip any parts that have Torah that’s no ok on Tisha Bav. (AFAIK)

Chains is an EXCELLENT idea. So is The Harp by Rabbi Meir Uri Gottesman. OP they're novels but really in the spirit of the day.

Also, in Stranger to my brothers, there’s a part in the beginning of the book that gives an appreciation for how awful the crusades were. It really made me think of Tisha Bav when I was reading it.
But the rest of the novel is not specifically a Tisha Bav style book (although it’s an excellent read!)

Rabbi Gottasman has another one called the morning star that's very relatable.
I save all the holocaust books for then and some years I read josephus yosefun on this day.

I recently finished reading
Uncovering Sefer Yirmiyahu
An Archeological, Geographical, Historical Perspective
By Rabbi Yehudah Landy
It was really powerful and explained the context of many events I thought I understood.
