Based on housing, tuition, and kosher food, I really expected these responses to be higher. Tuitions alone in many areas can run higher than some of these monthly budgets.

2 adults and 6 kids living in NY and expenses are $12,000-$14,000/month.
Mortgage and taxes- $3000
Tuition/childcare- $5,500
Food- about $1,500-$2,000
Therapy for one child- $800
Cleaning help- $600
Utilities (cell phone/water/electric/gas/internet)- $750
Car payments- $250
Insurance (home and car)- $300
Miscellaneous expenses such as shoes, clothes,, y"t expenses, birthday presents, household products (detergent, paper goods) etc. fluctuate but add at least several hundred every month.

Honestly, writing it all out makes me realize just how insane it is that we spend so much each month! When we first got married we lived on under $2,000 a month! And most of these expenses are not even things we can cut down on. We don't live in a big or fancy/updated house, we already get a break on tuition, most of my kids clothes are hand me downs (b"h I have 2 or 3 really good sources for hand me downs), food prices have skyrocketed to the point where even with the food boxes we get I'm still spending more at the grocery store than I did pre-covid and pre food boxes. Living a frum life if the NY area is just crazy expensive!

My older children eat A LOT
And insist on many american products and lots of take out and convenience food.
OTOH, tuition is negligible.

This must be a mistake. There's no way someone is spending over 16000 shekel a month on food even with American products and take out. And if it is true its definitely not the norm. I would say for that size family it would be between 5000-10000 depending.

I assume she means 5-6k shekel. We spend about that, and we're usually 10 adults every shabbos (2-4 people home during the week), eating well.

Way.
We spend over 17k shekel on food; groceries plus take out.
You have no idea the ages of my kids or our lifestyle. Why are you so sure it's a mistake?

I don't have little kids.

I was going to say 2.5k
But I’m realising we spend more.

£800 mortgage
£650 school fees
£500 bills
£1000 food, groceries, takeout…

Tzedaka, holidays, cars, renovations and upkeep…
I don’t know what these cost monthly.

What about you?

Family of 4
Expenses around $5K, not including what is taken from paycheck before it gets to us (most of health-related insurance, transportation to work)

housing $2100
childcare/tuition $1500 (soon increasing to $2300)
maaser $500
something extra (like a restaurant meal, gifts for us) $50
everything else monthly $500
(Breakdown of "everything else": utilities $100, gas $50, food $150-350, etc)
The rest (I guess $400 according to this, which is all approximate anyway) would be for non-monthly expenses (a small vacation, car repairs, home insurance-whatever we need-and the rest goes to savings)
The range for food costs is based on the free food we get now, in "food boxes", how good the sales were, etc.
