And if your aim is to get into management, managers (and up the line, directors, as another poster pointed out), make more.
I know dh is always on call, always checking his phone. If a system goes down on Sunday or at midnight and that's his responsibility, he might have to go in. Sometimes he was up at 2am for scheduled maintenance to systems, from home.
Shabbos and yt was never a problem as arrangements are made for others to cover for him during those times. On the plus side, it's an accepted industry for working from home some days. |
Thanks. Honestly im not very familiar with all the specs but ill ask him abt the manager part.

I was a project manager with a team of about 20 programmers at a big, well known insurance company. I earned up to $150K not counting bonuses which can be up to about another $25K.
The work was not super stressful and there were good benefits. Being frum was no issue at all. I left early Fridays during the winter months and used vacation time for yamim tovim that fell out during the week. I had 4 weeks vacation and the option of "buying" another week.
But I had a bachelors and masters in Computer Science and had worked my way up over about 8-10 years.
I would honestly recommend this field to anyone who enjoys programming, male or female. There is tremendous potential for a hard working, intelligent person.
