What is the polite reaction when someone uses the onaas devorim (aka hug) button on this site?

Why do you need a reaction? Just ignore

There should be a buzz button where the passive aggressor feels a little jolt. Would be fun!

It keeps us humble because of how often it's used clearly as a passive aggressive jab or when its intended use is not clear.

Why don’t you use like for like?
Hug is used for I’m sorry.
Either “I’m sorry about your pain!”
Or “I’M SORRY, WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY????"

That’s in the rare event it’s clearly an emotional support. Lol

It is important to stand up against lashon hara and onaas devorim.

Well, I’ll tell you. I am in favour of abolishing the “hug” button altogether . It’s impossible to know whether it’s being used as a lazy person’s way of showing sympathy or appreciation, or whether it’s being used in the sarcastic and patronising sense of “you poor dear, a brain is a terrible thing to waste.”

The “like” button is fairly straightforward, though even then you don’t know if what was liked was your idea or your wording. But, eh, a like is a like.

Thanks for this perspective. I’m going to try to be more careful.
