What can I give my one year old instead of milk. She's currently on formula because milk isnt sitting well with her stomach. she's very cranky, constipated, and making very piecey bowel movements that are difficult to wipe off. I want to transition her off formula

She doesn’t need milk. Both my kids stopped drinking it on their own at around 13 months. According to my pediatrician just make sure they’re getting calcium and fatty acids from other sources.

There are lots of options.

- Goat’s milk (many kids who have issues with cows milk do fine on goats milk)
- soy milk
- pea protein milk
- almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk… etc

My youngest can’t have raw milk. I just give soy or almond milk, depending what I have available. Soy milk is a good source of protein. Almond milk is just flavored water with vitamins as far as I’m concerned.

But milk isn’t really needed as long as your child is getting nutrients from healthy foods.

DD was very lactose intolerant. Our pediatrician said that rice milk that is fortified with vitamins is a good substitute. Be careful introducing nut milks until you are sure that there are no allergies. That's why he suggested rice.

Since it turned out that she has Celiac as well, it's a good thing she was on rice instead of oat or soy milk anyway (not because they have a ton of gluten, but because sometimes people with Celiac will cross-react.)
