I haven't gotten a real peice of jewelry in over 20 years
Now I'm trying not to feel bad I spent the money
[really it was a 'lower end' price range - $900 bracelt
[probably what grads buy...]
but I could never dream of spending this amount
of money on myself and today I got a gift and I'm literally floating]
so I'm just curious now-
which peices of weekday jewelry do you own? |
In what world is $900 a "lower end" piece of jewelry.
But if you can afford it, and love it, enjoy.

Have you walked into a jewelry store lately?
Unfortunately that is lower end.
I wear only real. Weekdsy/shabbos usually the same I just switch earrings because my shabbos ones are a little less comfortable

I know!
Not in my world!
Notice lower end is in quotes?
That's because it was lower in according to the store's selection!
For me it is seriously a small fortune and I feel beyond blessed
to have gotten this gift-
especially as I remember days and months of not being able to
pay bills or feed my family!

Unfortunately the price of jewelry has skyrocketed. You can assume that whatever you thought it used to be is double now. Real gold and diamonds is really expensive.
Close to 20 years ago I bought my husband a gold watch for $1200. I’m thinking that if we sell it now it’s probably worth a nice fortune…

we must come from different cultures because I wouldn’t call a $900 bracelet “Weekday” jewelry. (Though everything I own I’ve had for many years or inherited so I have no idea what any of it is worth today and might be terrified if I knew.)
Basically I don’t wear jewelry during the week aside from a watch (which is by way of being an appliance not an ornament) and small earrings, usually silver, none of which cost me more than $25. A long time ago, but still. The only completely fake stuff I have were gifts from dh. I wear them at home on Shabbat and YT just so he should see I use them. I’m philosophically opposed to wearing fakes.
The good stuff is for weddings and shul but even then I don’t wear more than three pieces, tops. Plain wedding ring doesn’t count. Earrings, occasionally a bracelet if the sleeves are 3/4 length, and sometimes a pin or a necklace, I used to wear rings but ageing hands are better off not calling attention to themselves. A beautiful ring doesn’t beautify a wrinkled, spotty and veiny hand. If anything, the contrast makes the hand look that much worse.

Wear it every day or as often as you would like. Enjoy every second of it.

All of my Shabbos Jewelry is my kallah jewelry, besides for my earrings which I have already replaced.
I have gotten a ring and vochen earrings which are real as well.
I would probably get a necklace next. I am not really a bracelet wearer. I never wear my Shabbos bracelet, I find it to be too much in the way.
Not 40 yet though.

What are vochen earrings? Yeshivishe and never heard of that phrase before.
Edit, oops I was reading it wrong. Vochen like weekday. Got it.
