Calling for women to *organize* to keep wages for low paid workers artificially low is repellent to me - especially so considering how much of a positive force Jews were in the movement to organize labor for better working conditions and higher wages.
A worker is worth what someone is willing to pay them - minimum wage is the legal MINIMUM and any worker is entitled to negotiate for as much as someone is willing to pay them.
If the cleaning ladies are asking for unrealistically high wages then the market will determine their value because people won't hire them. Conversely if some people are paying lower wages than others, they will find it difficult to hire people - or will find that they are only able to hire terrible irresponsible workers who aren't able to find work with decent employers - pay peanuts and you get monkeys.
Many places that pay close to minimum wages are finding it difficult to hire people and so wages are going up for fast food restaurant workers for example.
Also inflation is quite high for necessities like food which impact low wage workers most. |
Actually, employers are entitled to pay people minimum wage and nothing more regardless of what your personal beliefs so not sure why you think that employees are entitled to anything more than minimum wage. If you believe that is too low then take it up with the govt who set these rules but dont attack Jewish women for not paying more than minimum wage.
And its not against the law for employers to come together and discuss salaries but the fact that you have a problem with Jewish women doing that is not surprising as you would probably have a problem with anything that Jewish women do that you perceive to be "wrong" (not illegal, just "wrong" according to your perception).
Workers can try to negotiate more than the minimum wage but are not entitled to it. And if they join a union then the boss or bosses of the workers of that union can organize and negotiate with the entire union. So once again, Jewish women are not doing anything wrong by organizing to have collective bargaining with their unionized employees. Jews would be smart to organize and conduct collective bargaining with their unionized employees to ensure that they are not taken advantage of. Otherwise, you have a group of employees working against isolated employers (since each employers only has 1 worker so why does this 1 worker even need to be in a union?) and the employers would be exploited. I understand that you are against Jewish women who organize (or do anything that you perceive as "wrong" while you give the employees free passes to do whatever they want which is a double standard) but that is not against the law and would in fact help everyone involved.
That said, I do think that the frum women would be better off just hiring cleaning ladies from an agency that is licensed and paying their taxes instead of hiring illegal aliens who do whatever they want and make demands they are not entitled to. This way the Jewish women would avoid any problems with taxes and still get their needs met even if it does cost a little more (but maybe that will lower taxes in the end as they wouldnt have to pay for the illegal aliens who send their kids to public school that Jews pay for).
